The Ancient Capital of Zheng and Han States National Archaeological Site Park, Xinzheng
The site of the Ancient Capital of Zheng and Han States (the Zheng-Han Ancient City) is located at the junction of the rivers of Shuangji and Huangshui. During the late Western Zhou period, some 2,700 years ago, the Zheng State established its capital here. After the Han State overthrew the Zheng State, the regime also moved its capital to the site. Throughout its 539 years of history as a capital city, the Zheng-Han was a regional cultural and economic center.
The ancient city has a circumference of approximately 20 km and an area of 16 square km. The highest point of the city walls is 16 meters, with a base width between 40 and 60 meters. It provides some of the most intact city ruins from the period. Within the city, there are the ruins of ancient palaces, ancestral temples, sacrificial sites and the tombs of Zheng aristocrats, which were found in the form of rammed earth buildings. In addition to these sites, copper, iron, jade, bone and other manual workshop ruins have been found through unearthed artifacts, including copper slag, charcoal, a copper furnace, a blast pipe, copper knives, pottery vessels, and other tools.
