The new metro school at the Children's Park in Bogota – capital of Colombia, in South America – opened on Aug 10, with city mayor Claudia Lopez attending the launch ceremony.

The first metro line in Bogota – being constructed by a Chinese consortium consisting of China Harbour Engineering Company and the Xi'an Metro Group – will officially start operating in 2028.

The metro school is a pointer to a better future for the city, and will feature a 1:1 model train manufactured by CRRC Changchun Railway Vehicles Co.

At the opening ceremony, Claudia Lopez said that the daily commuting population in Bogota has now reached 11 million. She said the metro line will greatly alleviate traffic congestion and reduce automotive emissions.

The initiative to launch the metro school aims to guide people to use and take care of the metro correctly before its official operation in 2028, the mayor added.

During the ceremony, many participants left messages on display boards, writing "I love this project" and "The metro brings us closer together" and a raft of other positive remarks.

The Children's Park in Bogota covers an area of 16,400 square meters and it is an important facility serving local children, with an average of over 20,000 children and their parents going there on the weekends.
