The China Beijing International High-tech Expo (CHITEC) is a major annual technology expo held in Beijing every May that is sponsored by a number of national government agencies, including China’s Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Commerce, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), the State Intellectual Property Office, as well as the city government of Beijing.

CHITEC was initiated in 1998 as China Beijing High-tech Industry International Week. It was given its current name in 2002 at the fifth edition of the event. The aim of the event is to promote the commercialization, market-oriented operation, and internationalization of the technology industry. Over the past two decades, CHITEC has grown into a highly-specialized and international technology and trade event at which China can showcase state-of-the-art technologies, spread cutting-edge ideas, release industrial policies, as well as promote international economic and technical cooperation.

CHITEC is operated in the form of exhibitions, forums, and business talks. The exhibitions highlight industries related to new and high technologies, including electronic and communications technologies, computer networks, energy and environmental protection, biomedicine, as well as auto technology. The forums focus on inspiring topics and carry out a number of brand-named activities involving independent innovation, energy strategies, innovative service industries, new technologies and the cultural creative industry, as well as the circular economy. Business talks involve activities related to international investment projects, overseas investment by Chinese enterprises, and provincial delegations.

During the 22nd CHITEC, 57 delegates from two international organizations, as well as 33 countries and regions took part in a number of activities. Delegates from 21 provinces, cities, and districts participated in exhibitions, with the main exhibition receiving nearly 65,000 visits. A total of 247 public figures both at home and abroad delivered speeches at the symposium and forums, while 6,800 professionals attended meetings and conducted exchanges. A total of 14 project promotion activities attracted over 3,100 merchants from home and abroad.

According to statistics, the number of deals, cooperation agreements, and projects reached was 88, with an amount totaling 28.60 billion yuan.

The 23rd China Beijing International High-Tech Expo will be held from Sept 17 to 20, 2020.
