The Western China International Fair (WCIF) was founded in 2000, with its permanent site located in Chengdu, Sichuan province. It was held annually before 2014 and became biennial from 2014.
The WCIF is co-sponsored or supported by 15 ministries and commissions, including the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Commerce, and the Ministry of Science and Technology, 12 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities) in western China, the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, and the Boao Forum for Asia.
Adhering to the concept of “co-organization, sharing, and win-win results,” the WCIF has been held for 17 consecutive sessions. It is currently an important investment promotion and trade cooperation event and a diplomatic service platform for the western part of China. In 2015, it became one of the top 10 national key exhibitions to promote “Belt and Road” construction.
The 16th WCIF was held from Nov 3 to 14, 2016, with an exhibition area of 200,000 square meters. A total of 9,027 enterprises from 91 countries and regions participated in the fair, including 2,347 overseas enterprises. Sixteen countries set up national pavilions. It attracted a total of 510,000 visitors.
A total of more than 11,000 investment cooperation agreements have been signed between the first and 16th WCIF events, with the total contracted investment amount exceeding 6.01 trillion yuan ($862.08 billion).
