Huangpu district / Guangzhou Development District (GDD) is vigorously implementing the "5-2-3-6" traffic development strategy, i.e. unclogging the five roads connecting the downtown area to the west, which are Guangshan road, Yunxi road, Guangyuan East road, Huangpu East road and Linjiang Avenue East Extension Line; pushing forward the construction of two roads: the Yongjiu Express North Extension and the Jiulong Avenue North Extension; planning three river-crossing tunnels from Lingang Economic Zone to Pazhou, Xiqu to Hualong and Shayu Island; and accelerating the construction of six express roads, such as Guangzhou-Huizhou West Extension Line and North Second Ring Road Interchange. The strategy is expected to open up a fast traffic network leading to Guangzhou city, Baiyun Airport, Guangzhou South Railway Station and the metropolis cluster interchange. Taking the Guangzhou International Sports and Entertainment Center as the starting point, the time it takes to get to Guangzhou South Railway Station will be reduced to 30 minutes from 1 hour, the time needed to get to Paomachang will be reduced to 25 minutes from 50 minutes, and less than 15 minutes will be needed to get to Baiyun Airport from Knowledge City.

Highways

Huangpu district has a dense traffic trunk line network, including the G107 National Highway, East Second Ring Expressway, Guangzhou-Shenzhen Expressway, Guangzhou-Huizhou Expressway, Guangzhou-Heyuan Expressway, Guangzhou-Shantou Highway, Guangzhou-Shenzhen Highway, Guangyuan Express Route, Guangzhou-Shenzhen Riverside Expressway and Guangzhou-Shenzhen Express Route.

Railways

The Guangzhou-Shenzhen railway runs through the whole district, connecting the city center of Guangzhou with Shenzhen and Kowloon in Hongkong.

Subway transport

At present, there are a total of four subway lines in operation in Huangpu district, namely Metro Line 5, Line 6, Line 13, and Knowledge City Branch Line 14. In the future, 13 subway lines and six tram lines are to be opened to traffic or under construction in Huangpu district, and three express subway lines are planned (Knowledge City-Baiyun Airport line, Knowledge City-Guangzhou East Railway Station line and Knowledge City- Nansha line).

Waterborne transport

Huangpu district is located in the Pearl River estuary in the southeast of Guangzhou, the location of Huangpu Port - the largest port in south China, and the downtown port area of Guangzhou metropolis. Huangpu Port is navigable to the sea to major coastal cities on the Chinese Mainland, reaching more than 600 ports in more than 100 countries or regions in the world. Inland river shipping upstream on the Pearl River leads to the Dongjiang, Xijiang and Beijiang rivers. The Guangzhou-Hong Kong Passenger Terminal serves the Pearl River Channel to Hong Kong, a distance of about 65 nautical miles.

Airborne transport

Located 41 kilometers away from Huangpu district and within a 30-minute drive on the Guangyuan Express Trunk Line, the new Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport is the largest international aviation hub in south China. It has developed into one of the most advanced, fully functional and busiest international airports in China, and served more than 65 million passengers in 2017, ranking 13th in the world. By the end of 2017, Baiyun Airport's airline network included more than 210 global destinations, of which nearly 90 were international and regional. More than 75 domestic and foreign airlines operate from the airport.
