Hurun lists Zhuhai businessmen among China's richest

Thirteen key figures from nine Zhuhai enterprises made it onto the 2018 Hurun China Rich List released by Hurun Research Institute on Oct 10. One is among the top ten, one a father-son team, and four are new.

Lei Jun, chairman of Kingsoft and Xiaomi Technology, moved up 12 spots to return to the top 10. With the listing of Xiaomi, his assets are reported to have increased by 42 billion yuan ($6 billion) to 110 billion yuan ($15.9 billion).

The Chinese smart phone giant achieved operating revenue of more than 45 billion yuan ($6.5 billion) in the second quarter of 2018, a year-on-year increase of 68 percent.

Meanwhile, Huang Zhang, founder of Chinese smartphone maker Meizu Technology Co Ltd based in Tangjiawan, has estimated assets of 2.5 billion yuan ($360.7 million) and this year climbed 124 rungs to 1,557th place. Meizu was the only local company listed on the Hurun Greater China Unicorn Index 2017.

Li Jiankang, president of Taxin PetroChina (Zhuhai) Co Ltd, jumped 207 places to 1,775th with a wealth of 2 billion yuan ($288.5 million). Li and Huang are the only two Zhuhai entrants from non-listed companies.

On the other hand, Wang Dongying, Zeng Yangyun, and Li Dongfei, controlling shareholders of Ninestar Corp, made an inaugural appearance on the list along with board member Pang Jianghua. Ninestar is a global leader dedicated to printing and imaging products.

The other Zhuhai businessmen on the list are the family of By-Health President Liang Yunchao; Zhou Zhenke, controlling shareholder of Zhuhai Letong Chemical Corp; Jafron Biomedical leader Dong Fan; Liang Shezeng and son Liang Jiarong, controlling shareholders of real estate magnate Guangdong Shirong Zhaoye Co Ltd; and the family of Zhuhai Hokai Medical Instruments President Hao Zhenxi.

This year marks the 20th annual ranking of the richest people in China, with a wealth cut-off of 2 billion yuan ($288.5 million). A total of 1,893 individuals made the list, led by e-commerce giant Alibaba's founder Jack Ma, Xu Jiaying of Evergrande Group, and technology giant Tencent's founder Pony Ma.
