Donghua University

Donghua University consists of the Yan’an Rd Campus and the Songjiang Campus. Its history goes back to 1912 when Zhang Jian, a prominent Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) industrialist, established Nantong College, the predecessor of Donghua. 

The school has more than 2,800 faculty members and around 30,000 students. Its leading disciplines are Textiles, Fashion, Materials, and Trade and its Textile Science and Engineering, a major national discipline, has been declared No 1 by China’s Academic Degree and Graduate Education Development Center. It has 56 undergraduate programs, 59 master’s degree programs, 28 PhD programs, and five post-doctoral research centers.  

It emphasizes international cooperation and exchanges, and has relations with at least 100 prominent universities, research centers and enterprises around the world. In 2002, it established an International Cultural Exchange School for cultivating the development of international students and by 2011, the university had over 4,000 international students, from 135 countries, putting it in 5th place in Shanghai, and 11th in China.
