The Jiaxing Museum, also known as the Jiaxing Majiabang Culture Museum, has been elevated to the status of a national first-class museum. This announcement was made on International Museum Day, May 18, marking the museum's inclusion in the fifth batch of museums to receive this honor, with the total number now at 327 across China.

The Jiaxing Museum's rise to prominence reflects the growth of Zhejiang province's museum landscape, which now features 20 first-class museums among its total of 435.

The national first-class museum rank, the highest given by the National Cultural Heritage Administration, recognizes excellence in management, social service, and cultural preservation.

Founded in 1958, the Jiaxing Museum has evolved into a comprehensive cultural hub, housing over 8,181 artifacts, including rare first-grade relics. Its collection, particularly rich in prehistoric pottery and Shanghai-style Ming and Qing dynasty (1368-1911) art, offers a window into the region's historical and cultural evolution.

The museum's recent expansion includes a digital resource management system for its artifacts, enhancing visitor engagement through immersive experiences. Its "335" exhibition system — three permanent, three special, and five temporary exhibits — has garnered acclaim and public interest, showcasing the museum's commitment to cultural education and community involvement.

With its new status, Jiaxing Museum sets a higher benchmark for museum operations nationwide, promising enriched cultural experiences for visitors and a continued celebration of Jiaxing's historical legacy.
