New energy promotes high-quality development in Hohhot

In the past few years, Hohhot has strategically utilized its four key advantages in wind resources: the power grid infrastructure in Northwestern Inner Mongolia, the concentration of industrial activities, and the ongoing advancements in energy storage technology. The city has made every effort to promote the development of the entire new energy industry chain.

Located in Horinger New Area, the China Mobile Hohhot Data Center, as a national green data center, reduced its power usage effectiveness (PUE) by 0.04 to reach 1.29 in 2022. As a result, it saved 14.85 million kilowatt-hours of electricity and reduced carbon emissions by 8,628 metric tons.

By 2025, the supply of green electricity is expected to account for over 50 percent of the total electricity consumption, driving an increase of over 330 billion yuan ($46.26 billion) in upstream and downstream investments in the industry chain. Green electricity supply plans have been developed for 15 industrial manufacturing projects, with a total investment of 200 billion yuan.

In the future, the city will accelerate the introduction of supporting industries such as photovoltaic supports, photovoltaic glass, EVA film, integrated circuits, and packaging materials and build a national new energy equipment manufacturing base.

Additionally, relying on talent and technological advantages and the extensive new energy market in Inner Mongolia, the city has planned and constructed a wind, solar, and hydrogen storage technology research and application demonstration base.

It will also focus on promoting the gathering and development of a number of scientific and technological innovation carriers, such as Shanghai Jiaotong University Inner Mongolia Research Institute, Sinopec New Energy Northern Research Center, and Inner Mongolia Green Energy Research Institute.
