The groundbreaking ceremony for the Huawei Cloud Horinger Data Center Project was held in Hohhot – capital city of North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region – on Oct 8.

The project, one of China's eight major computing hubs, will be located in Horinger New Area Cloud Valley Zone and cover an area of 5,963 mu (398 hectares).

It will include the construction of data centers, substations, laboratories, research and production facilities, as well as support amenities for the daily living of residents.

With a planned server capacity of over 1 million units, the project is regarded as a vital strategic system for the future development of computing industries such as the east-to-west computing resource transfer project.

The deployment of the integrated cloud computing infrastructure is expected to significantly promote the upgrading of regional information technology sectors – including artificial intelligence, the internet of things and big data.

It is also seen as providing a solid foundation for the prosperity of the ICT industry ecosystem and the cultivation of ICT talent.

Once completed, the Huawei Cloud Horinger Data Center will be the biggest computing hub cluster in North China for Huawei and it is expected to be a driving force for digital economy innovation and development in Hohhot.

In recent years, Hohhot has been leveraging its resource advantages to develop an electronics information technology industry cluster with big data and cloud computing as its highlights.

With the establishment of numerous computing industry projects by major telecom operators – as well as leading financial institutions, the China Meteorological Administration and top internet companies – a new development pattern for the electronics information technology industry has been formed.

It's based on data centers, supported by cloud computing and aligned with green computing power.
