Hohhot embraces bountiful harvest season

Among its various efforts to prioritize agricultural development, Hohhot, capital of North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, has achieved a bountiful harvest and secured food safety for 2023, presenting a significant achievement.

According to agricultural statistics, the total sown area of crops in the city reached 6.7 million mu (446,893 hectares) this year, remaining steady compared to 2022. Of this total, the area used for cultivating grain crops increased by 0.47 million mu year-on-year to stand at 5.65 million mu.

Livestock production saw steady growth from January to August, with the total population in the city reaching 4.2 million. The dairy cow population reached 380,000, showing a year-on-year increase of 19.7 percent.

Encouragement by a supportive vegetable policy that has been implemented for two straight years, farmers have shown more enthusiasm to cultivate produce.

Currently, the city has a vegetable planting area spanning 150,000 mu, up 30 percent from the comparable period last year, primarily in open-field vegetables.

Vegetable production in the first half reached about 115,000 metric tons, an increase of around 5 percent from 2022.
