Ningbo enchants visitors with nighttime activities

The 2023 Enchanting Night of Ningbo Culture and Tourism Expo was launched in Ningbo, Zhejiang province on June 29 and various night activities are set to be held throughout the city.

The event is slated to run until Sept 10, during which time cultural activities featuring tourism products related to the Maritime Silk Road, intangible cultural heritage items, and cultural and innovative products, will be held at museums, libraries, shopping malls, and cinemas across Ningbo.

Digital shopping coupons will also be issued by the Ningbo Municipal Bureau of Commerce and Ningbo UnionPay to encourage people to engage in activities held at shopping malls.

The launch ceremony was held on a cruise ship at the city's Sanjiangkou. At the ceremony, entrepreneurs, scholars, artisans, and consulate officials from 11 countries, including the United Kingdom, Italy, Vietnam, and Chile, got a close look at Ningbo's intangible cultural heritage items through three activities.

Xiao Han, director of the famous documentary film "Masters in the Forbidden City", shared stories about directing a documentary featuring shuaya (teeth play), a performance that is part of a folk opera pingdiao (flat tone).

Lou Chengbing, director of the Ningbo Chef Committee, has been making Ningbo dishes for 30 years and his team enthralled participants with five delicious dishes.

In addition, performances by a local Celadon Ou Music troupe showcased the unique charm of the ancient Chinese art by preforming music on ceramic vessels and percussion instruments.
