The Longhua Martyrs Memorial, first planned for construction in 1984, opened to the public in 1997. It was originally the site of the Kuomintang's Songhu Garrison Command and where 24 Longhua revolutionary martyrs sacrificed themselves.

Covering an area of about 6,000 square meters over two floors, the museum is a comprehensive memorial integrating gardens, ruins, monuments and exhibitions.

The first dynamic sculpture multimedia music exhibition in China is displayed in the preface hall. Under dark clouds and ferocious lightning, three groups of sculptures are gathered to break through the rule of darkness, and the peach blossom in the sky blows away the dark clouds and lightning on the screen. Historical records of all the heroes who dedicated themselves to Shanghai during the Revolution of 1911 are exhibited here.

The main display, "Ode to the Heroes - Shanghai Heroes Memorial Display", is composed of eight parts. With a theme of "City nurtures heroes, spirit inspires future generations", it aims to "tell heroic stories from history, and publicize the heroic spirits of heroes".

The exhibition boasts over 1,500 photos, more than 400 real objects, and more than 100 pieces of art such as oil paintings, traditional Chinese paintings, mother-of-pearl paintings, copper plates, lacquer mounds and glass carvings.

Using these collections, together with the assistance of advanced technologies, the life stories of 257 heroes are displayed to the public.

In order to exhibit the deeds of the heroes, stories are also used to illustrate their characters.

Their 78 maxims are placed in eye-catching positions. Sixty-nine history screens with oral explanations, 52 interactive knowledge screens and 29 content expansion screens have been put in the exhibition hall to restore the images of the heroes from multiple angles.
