Since the beginning of this year, Xi'an, capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi province, has made efforts to promote its high-quality development.

In the first quarter of this year, the gross domestic product of Xi'an was 283.41 billion yuan ($39.86 billion), a year-on-year increase of 7.6 percent.

Opening-up

The city demonstrated its commitment to openness, tolerance, mutual benefit, and win-win results during the China-Central Asia Summit held on May 18-19.

Following the summit, a significant shipment of cherries weighing two metric tons was transported from Tashkent, capital of Uzbekistan, to Xi'an on a Boeing B757-200 aircraft on May 23.

Also on May 30, a specialized China-Europe Chang'an freight train, exclusively designated for Chinese telecommunications company ZTE's exports, embarked on its journey from Xi'an to Tashkent.

The China-Europe Chang'an freight train made 1,103 trips, an increase of 39.6 percent during the first quarter of the year, compared to the same period last year.

Innovation

Launched in 2021, Qinchuangyuan is the leading platform and a key source of innovation-driven development in Shaanxi. It is also the region's biggest incubator for the practical application of science and technology.

With the help of Qinchuangyuan's advantages, 80 projects were signed and settled in Xixian New Area from January to April this year, with an investment of more than 100 billion yuan.

So far, Xi'an is home to over 12,000 technology-based small and medium-sized enterprises and over 10,000 high-tech enterprises. Its turnover of technology contracts ranked first among sub-provincial cities.

Modern industries

In recent years, Xi'an has accelerated the upgrading of traditional industries to high-end, intelligent, and green industries and has cultivated and expanded strategic emerging industries.

Among them, the six pillar industries of electronic information, automobiles, new materials and new energy, high-end equipment, aerospace, food, and biomedicine are growing momentum.

In the first quarter, Xi'an's output of new energy vehicles continued to lead the growth with a year-on-year growth rate of 62.8 percent, accounting for 13.8 percent of the country's total, which means that about every seven new energy vehicles produced in the country, one is produced in Xi'an.
