Xi'an ranks 6th for new first-tier cities

Xi'an, capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi province, ranked sixth among 15 new first-tier cities, according to the 2023 City Commercial Charm Ranking released by the financial media outlet Yicai on May 30.

The ranking evaluated the commercial appeal of 337 Chinese cities at the prefecture level or above based on five primary factors: concentration of commercial resources, hub attributes, urban vitality, lifestyle diversity, and development flexibility.

Xi'an ranked 10th among 15 new first-tier cities for the concentration of commercial resources. Xi'an is home to 80 special commercial blocks, pedestrian streets, more than 130 commercial complexes with rich formats, and eight Outlets.

The city also ranked sixth in terms of hub attributes for its plans to build 24 urban rail transit networks with a total length of 1,155 kilometers (717.68 miles) to promote the joint development of transportation, logistics, and commerce.

Regarding urban vitality, Xi'an ranked 13th. In recent years, Xi'an has created new consumption scenes centering on festivals, the first store economy, and the nighttime economy.

In 2023, Xi'an will create 10 nighttime economic clusters with distinctive features to better meet the high-quality and diversified consumption needs of locals and tourists.

Also, for lifestyle diversity, the city stood in ninth place. Xi'an has made efforts to build itself into a historical and cultural capital that highlights Chinese civilization, a fashionable shopping capital that leads the trend, and an international gourmet capital that inherits the past and present, as well as a famous international convention and exhibition city and a world-famous event city.

Meanwhile, the city ranked 10th in terms of future development flexibility. In recent years, Xi'an has been more attractive to high-level talents. By the end of 2022, Xi'an had a total of 3.56 million talents of various types.

The city's future development is well worth looking forward to.
