Jiaxing topped the list of the top 10 cities in terms of per capita disposable income of rural residents in 2022, following Zhoushan, Shaoxing, Ningbo, Hangzhou, Dongguan, Huzhou, Suzhou, Zhongshan and Wuxi.

Zhejiang province has six cities shortlisted, while Guangdong province and Jiangsu province each have two.

The per capita disposable income of rural residents in Jiaxing reached 46,300 yuan ($6,565.77) in 2022, up 6.1 percent compared with 2021.

The per capita disposable income of the city's rural residents has ranked first in the province for the past 19 years. Meanwhile, the city's urban-rural income ratio narrowed to less than 1.6 in 2022, and the urban-rural gap remained the smallest in the province.

Rural residents of Zhoushan, Shaoxing, Ningbo and Hangzhou in Zhejiang also had per capita disposable incomes above 45,000 yuan in 2022.

Flourishing industries in Zhejiang's rural areas and the concentration of small, medium and micro-sized enterprises make the incomes of the province's farmers the highest in China, according to industry analysts.

The per capita disposable income of rural residents in Jiangsu's Suzhou and Wuxi reached 43,800 yuan and 41,900 yuan, respectively, in 2022.

Dongguan ranked sixth with the per capita income of its rural residents at 45,100 yuan in 2022, while Zhongshan ranked ninth at 43,500 yuan, both of which were higher than Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong. In 2022, the per capita disposable income of rural residents in Guangzhou was 36,300 yuan.
