From January to October, automobile output in Northwest China's Shaanxi province reached 1 million, soaring 63.3 percent on the previous corresponding period – a whopping 55 percentage points higher than the national level.

Of that, production of new energy vehicles (NEVs) was 737,000 units, an increase of 295 percent, 185 percentage points higher than the national level. That performance accounted for 73.7 percent and 13.4 percent, respectively, of the province's and the country's output.

Estimates are that annual production of automobiles in Shaanxi will reach about 1.2 million in 2022, and the output of NEVs will reach more than 1 million throughout the year.

The rapid development of the automobile industry in Shaanxi is widely said to be inseparable from the strong support of the sector in the city of Xi'an, capital of the province.

In recent years, Xi'an has identified the sector as an important pillar industry, optimized the industrial ecosystem, improved the competitiveness of the supply chain and achieved its rapid development.

The city has formed two major automobile production bases to date – in the Xi'an High-tech Industries Development Zone and the Xi'an Economic & Technological Development Zone.

Moreover, Xi'an has actively developed its NEV industry and has formed a relatively comprehensive NEV product line.

Due to Xi'an's effective industrial policies and efficient industrial environment, from January to October this year, it produced 936,000 vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 89.5 percent.
