A food tracing system developed as part of digitization reforms in East China's Zhejiang province will soon be promoted nationwide.

On April 27, the Zhejiang Administration for Market Regulation and the GS1 (Globe Standard 1) China, which is in charge of organizing, coordinating, and administrating article numbers in the country, signed a strategic cooperation agreement on establishing a governance model for food security, for which the first step is to spread "Zheshilian" across the country.

"Zheshilian", a digital food tracing system launched in Zhejiang on March 15, has by far been applied by 3,377 business entities in the food industry. Consumers in the province are now able to immediately view a food product's delivery inspection report, sample survey, quality certificate, disinfection certificate, and other information by scanning codes printed on its package.

"The food tracing system developed by Zhejiang authorities is currently the most mature and reliable of its kind in China, and it is worth promoting across the country," said an official of GS1 China. According to him, GS1 China and the Zhejiang Administration for Market Regulation will work together to achieve the mutual recognition of "Zheshilian" among different provinces so as to better serve both consumers and enterprises.
