Starting on Monday, Gaocheng district in Shijiazhuang, North China's Hebei province, where this year's COVID-19 epidemic in the province started, will become a medium-risk area for coronavirus infection, according to information released at a news conference on Sunday afternoon.

It has been high-risk for a month as most of the province's confirmed COVID-19 cases during the epidemic were detected in the district since Jan 2.

Nangong city in Xingtai and Xinle city in Shijiazhuang will be designated as low-risk areas on Monday, according to those at the conference. The two used to be the province's high-risk areas and have been lowered to medium risk since last week.

After the new adjustment, the province will have two medium-risks - Gaocheng district in Shijiazhuang and another in Dingzhou city, while other places in Hebei are all low-risks.

No confirmed cases or asymptomatic carriers had been identified as of 10 am on Sunday in Hebei, which has contained the epidemic as the daily rise of new cases has been kept at zero or a one-digit number in recent days.

As of Sunday, the province has reported over 900 confirmed COVID-19 cases since Jan 2, less than 200 of whom are receiving treatment in a hospital while the rest had been discharged.
