Tianyi Pavilion Moon Lake Scenic Area can be divided into two areas: Tianyi Pavilion and Moon Lake. Occupying 1 square kilometer, it lies in the picturesque city of Ningbo, Zhejiang province.

Built in 1561 in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), Tianyi Pavilion is the oldest private library in existence in China. It was founded by Fan Qin, who had been a high-ranking official in several cities around China.

With more than 80,000 volumes of valuable books and records, the library has exerted a profound influence on other libraries in China.

From the books and steles kept in the library, scholars have learnt much about the education, economic development, literary and revolutionary history of Ningbo. Recent generations have been committed to protecting and enlarging the library.
