Jinan, capital of eastern Shandong province, announced that the city's gross domestic product (GDP) was 944.34 billion yuan ($136.86 billion) in 2019, an increase of 7 percent over the previous year.

The city's GDP ranks 20th in the country, ahead of Hefei, Fuzhou, and Xi'an.

Jinan's GDP is expected to exceed one trillion yuan in 2020, which would put it among the elite 1-trillion-club members, officials said.

According to data from the Jinan municipal bureau of statistics, the city's general public revenue in the past year reached 87.42 billion yuan, up 7.2 percent, ranking second in Shandong province.

In 2019, Jinan's added value of enterprises above designated size rose 4.2 percent.

The output of emerging industrial products increased rapidly, of which industrial robots grew by 7 percent, solar cells by 37.7 percent, and high temperature alloys by 19.9 percent.

Significant progress has been made in the shift of growth drivers from old to new ones. The electronic information industry and internet-related sectors surged 13.4 and 30 percent respectively in 2019.

Officials said that the Jinan government will further promote the city's economic and social development in 2020.
