The Yellow River, China's second-longest river, saw its fourth flood this year due to continuous rainfall in the upper reaches of the river, the Ministry of Water Resources said Sunday.

Affect by heavy rainfall since Sept 11, the amount of water flowing per second at Tangnaihai hydrologic station in northwest China's Qinghai province, has increased to 2,500 cubic meters, the ministry said.

It is expected the flood would have little effect on the mainstream of the Yellow River after the river flows across Lanzhou, the capital of northwest province of Gansu, as water levels at major water monitoring stations in the upper reaches of the river were all below the warning level.

The ministry said it would step up efforts to implement a series of prevention work including enhancing flood research and reservoir operation to strengthen flood control of the Yellow River.
