Henan Normal University

Located in Central China's Henan province, Henan Normal University (HNU) has been jointly supported by the Ministry of Education and the provincial government since 2015, and in 2017, it was listed as one of the National 111 Plan, or the National Overseas Expertise Introduction Project for Discipline Innovation.

Founded in 1923 as Zhongzhou University, the university was merged with Pingyuan Normal College in 1951, and given its current name in 1985. It has 25 colleges and departments, and offers 83 undergraduate degree programs, covering 11 disciplines: philosophy, economics, law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, agronomy, management and art. It boasts 10 first-tier disciplines authorized to confer doctoral degrees, 27 first-tier disciplines to confer master's degrees and four postdoctoral stations.

As of May 2019, three disciplines offered by HNU – chemistry, engineering science and material science – have been ranked among the top 1 percent in ESI (Essential Science Indicators).

HNU has more than 50,000 students and 2,700 faculty members, among whom nearly 1,000 have deputy senior professional titles or above.

HNU has attached great importance to scientific innovation, and set up 45 scientific research platforms at or above provincial and ministerial level. Since the 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-15), it has undertaken many national and provincial scientific research projects such as National 973 Plan, National 863 Plan, National Science Fund and National Sci-tech Support Plan.

At the same time, HNU has focused on promoting international communication and cooperation over the years, establishing cooperative relationships with some 50 colleges and universities from the United States, the United Kingdom, Russia and Canada.
