Chengde Ice and Snow Festival in Emperor Kangxi's Summer Mountain Resort (February 5-19)
In order to demonstrate the winter tourist resources of Bashang to tourists and to enable them to experience the charm and customs of northland in winter, and to provide them with various snow-appreciations and skiing recreational services, Chengde Ice and Snow Festival in Emperor Kangxi's Summer Mountain Resort has come about at the right moment. The main activities include viewing the winter scenery and ice sculptures at the imperial summer villa, participating in the diversified ice sports like skiing, winter swimming, riding ice vehicles, goat-pulled vehicles, and house-pulled vehicles, snowmobiles, dog-pulled sledding, house-pulled sledding, as well as watching professional skiing performances and contests. There are also such activities as barbecue, fireworks and campfire parties, hunting, and snowfield adventure games.
Chengde International Tourist Festival (June 2-4)
Located at the northern part of North China and adjacent to Beijing and Tianjin, Chengde is a renowned historical and cultural city in China, as well as a tourist city of grassland. On this beautiful and fantastic land, the rich Manchu and Mongolian folklore complements and enhances its radiance and charm.
To build the overall image of Chengde as a world cultural heritage city and a tourist city, and to promote the prosperity and development of tourism, the China National Tourism Administration and the People’s Government of Hebei Province determined to hold Chengde International Tourist Festival from June 2 to 4 each year at Chengde.
The festival aims to present to the tourists the charm of China’s famous historical and cultural city - Chengde, and enable them to appreciate the quintessence of the world cultural heritages and to explore the verve of the imperial culture of Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). The main activities include a large-scale opening ceremony at the Emperor Kangxi's Summer Mountain Resort, dragon boat festival, international dragon boat contests, Fengning folklore grassland festival, as well as folklore cultural activities like dragon dances, lion dances, visit of Guo Xiaochuan (a Chinese modern poet)’s former residence, Manchu and Mongolian ethnic customs and dance performances, and a bite of local delicacies.
