Founded in 1881, Foshan First People's Hospital spans three centuries. From a simple church clinic and Methodist hospital, it has now developed into a large, modern comprehensive hospital with distinct characteristics in medicine, teaching and research.

The hospital covers 120,000 square meters, and a construction area of 280,000 square meters. It has more than 4,000 employees, 2,500 beds, 64 clinical departments, 22 medical technology departments and 22 administrative departments. In 2017, the number of outpatients and emergency patients reached over 4.9 million, and the hospital discharged more than 110,000 people, and did 60,000 operations.  

The hospital has more than 13,600 pieces of high-precision equipment, and medical equipment worth 1.36 billion yuan ($202.26 million).

The hospital has made great progress in discipline construction, postdoctoral training, postgraduate education, continuing medical education, clinical teaching, affiliated hospital construction, scientific research, new technology development and intellectual property rights.

The hospital's clinical technology in many fields is advanced compared to similar hospitals in Guangdong province and even the country. The hospital was the first in China to perform endoscopic surgery, and has surgical expertise in gynecology, hepatobiliary, gastrointestinal, pediatric, thoracic, urology, gastroenterology, respiratory medicine and otolaryngology.

The hospital has reformed its outpatient processes and accelerated digital construction. It has opened an appointment registration system, and set up a large customer service center. The hospital has also launched the first self-service registration and innovative payment systems in China, and uses electronic medical records.
