NetEase Cloud Music, a subsidiary of the Hangzhou-based internet company, NetEase, held an award ceremony to honor Chinese indie musicians recently at Beijing's M Space.

The event, now in its second year, brought together Chinese singer-songwriters, including rock musician Zhang Chu, indie folk duo, The Landlord's Cat, and singer-songwriter Mao Buyi.

At the event, Mao won the Album of the Year for his debut work Perfect Day, which was released in May 2018 and sold more than 11 million singles on NetEase Cloud Music by the end of 2018.

According to Ding Bo, the vice-president of NetEase Cloud Music, the award ceremony covers music of different genres, including rock, electronic music and folk music, which proves the diversity of China's original music scene.

The online music platform, which has more than 600 million registered users, has been giving exposure to original Chinese singer-songwriters since 2013. Over 70,000 singer-songwriters had joined NetEase Cloud Music as of September, making it the biggest platform for them in China.
