Xiaoshan district of Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, is pushing forward with plans to develop in preparation for the 2022 Hangzhou Asian games, according to a recent conference held in Hangzhou on Jan 12.

Aiming to raise the international profile and influence of Xiaoshan, the local government has pledged to implement an innovation-driven development strategy and promote the industrial transformation of the district's digital economy, while seeking breakthroughs in the ecological environment and optimizing the business environment for talents and investors.

A total of eight action plans highlighting river development, innovative development, cultural prosperity, people's wellbeing and public security were also revealed.

According to the plan, Qiantang River, the mother river of Zhejiang province, will be the focus to help Hangzhou expand its urban areas across the river and thus make it a new pivot of the fast-growing city by developing industries, talents and high technologies.

The district will continue to bolster the regional economy by giving full play to the Xiaoshan Economic and Technological Development Zone and foster new drivers of industrial growth including information technology, robotics and artificial intelligence and new energy vehicles.

More efforts will also be made in emerging industries and such cutting-edge sectors as artificial intelligence, blockchain, virtual reality, mobile internet, next generation communication systems and the internet of things.

With the ecological environment increasingly seen as playing a key role in boosting the regional economy and improving people's livelihoods, the district will rev up efforts in rural construction and green development so as to make the district a dynamic, livable and harmonious place to live.
