Laojun Mountain Scenic Spot, a sacred Taoist site in Luanchuan county, Luoyang is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Henan province. As part of an extension of the Qinling Mountain Range which divides China into North and South, Laojun Mountain towers 2,200 meters and is the main peak of Funiu Mountains. It is known for its cultural heritage as an important site in Taoism as it was once the retreat of Laozi, a great Chinese philosopher and the founder of Taoism.
On Laojun Mountain, pretty peaks, odd stones, high and evergreen trees, and also dissolved pillars in kart caves form to create picturesque scenes. Covering an area of 26.7 square kilometers, the zone acts as a national natural reserve and geological park, offering visitors unique views of complicated landforms and old-growth forest.
Constructed in 1997, the zone has developed six sightseeing areas with 179 scenic spots. A must see site is the pavilion with a painted golden roof, which sits atop one of the peaks of Laojun Mountain. According to legend, Laojun Mountain is the place where Laozi would go on retreats and drew inspiration that pushed his growth to be a spiritual leader.

1. The climate on the mountain is rather cold, so prepare enough clothes to keep warm.
2. No smoking.
3. Obey the rules and do not enter undeveloped areas in case of danger.
