A 500-kilovolt gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) substation is set to be put into operation in September, in Hohhot, North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region. The substation is the first of its kind in the city.

With planned investment of more than 200 million yuan ($31.49 million), the substation covers an area of 4.91 hectares.

The new substation is expected to benefit the southern areas of Hohhot. It will transfer much-needed electricity to Horinger New Area and Shengle Industrial Park.
