A Chinese team, most of whom are from Zhanjiang, lifted the trophy of the first-ever U18 Women's World Football Championships for the hearing impaired in Thailand on Dec 3, 2017. It marked the first victory for China in the world football championships.
Back in 2013, Zhanjiang established the first formal hearing impaired women's football team in the country. Supplemented by other top picks nationwide, it represented China at the 23nd Summer Deaflympics in Turkey in July 2017.
