He Chao, the gold medalist of the men's 3m springboard at the FINA Swimming Championships, announced his retirement in a Sina Weibo post on Dec 8, 2017.

Born in Zhanjiang in 1992, He Chao was influenced by his older brother He Chong, the champion of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, and fell in love with diving. He started to practice it as young as six and was selected to the provincial team in 2001.

In 2008, He started to represent China in international events and brought home two gold medals in men's single and synchronized 3m springboard. He was also the silver medal winner in men's 3 m springboard at the 2014 Asian Games.
