Xiamen's GDP is expected to reach 610 billion yuan ($92.21 billion) by the end of 2020.

According to the development report on the 13th Five-year Plan, which predicted further development for Xiamen in terms of economy, population and urban and rural development, Xiamen's population is expected to reach 5.5 million by the end of 2020.

GDP

Currently, Xiamen's per capita GDP is 13,166 dollars, doubling China's national average level of 6,995 dollars. According to the report, its GDP is expected to reach 610 billion yuan by the end of 2020.

Population

Driven by an increased population inflow, Xiamen is expected to have a population of 5.5 million by the end of 2020.

Xiamen had reported a population of 3.73 million in 2013, with the population on Xiamen Island accounting for over half of the city's total permanent population, while in 2020, Jimei District is expected to take the lead in with 1.1 million, followed by Huli District (1 million), Siming District (1 million), Xiang'an District (0.85 million), Tong'an District (0.8 million) and Haicang District (0.75 million).

Xiamen Island-outlying districts integration

The total land area of Xiamen Island is only 10 percent of the city's total land area, but its GDP is 1.18 times of the total GDP of the outlying districts and its average land output is 12 times more than the outlying districts. The population on Xiamen Island is 1.1 times more than the outlying districts and its population density is 11.6 times higher than the outlying districts.

By 2020, the outlying districts are expected to be bases for advanced manufacturing industries, high-tech industries, transportation and logistics.
