A Zhuhai-Zhangjiajie flight is to open next year carrying more tourists from the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area to northwestern Hunan Province, according to an announcement made on Nov 27.

The flights have been requested by Zhangjiajie and Huaihua cities as well as Xiangxi Tujia & Miao Autonomous Prefecture in Hunan to attract more tourists from the Pearl River Delta, especially during the winter travel peak.

A promotional event, which included artistic performances, was held in Zhuhai by the governments of the three areas to introduce tourist products and favorable visitor policies.

According to the Zhangjiajie government, the Greater Bay Area is an important market generating many visitors.

Zhangjiajie, for instance, is a famous forest-covered city with sandstone peaks, valleys, caves, hot springs, lakes, creeks, forests, and a wealth of cultural heritage, and has much appeal to dwellers living further south.

Nearly 15 million tourists from Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao visited Zhangjiajie last year, accounting for about one-third of the total number of tourists the city registered.

The Zhuhai-Zhangjiajie air route will be yet another transportation choice, said an official from that destination.
