Wuxi wraps up 12th Sports Meeting

The 12th Sports Meeting lasted for about seven months, attracting 1100 athletes from 270 teams to compete in 600 competitions and a total of 2187 gold medals were awarded to winning athletes.

With its theme of "sports make people healthier", the quadrennial event was a success.

A group of sports teams and individuals were also recognized and commended.

Li Xiaomin, secretary of the Wuxi Municipal Party Committee, expressed congratulations for the success of the 12th Sports Meeting and honored the recognized teams and individuals.

Li said, "In recent years, Wuxi government has paid attention to sports industry and improve the public sports service system. The success of Wuxi International Marathon, Cycling Tour of Taihu Lake and Public Sports Meeting lead people put much enthusiasm on sports fitness."

"The 12th Sports Meeting has realized much public participation. In the Spirit of the 19th CPC National Congress, we should extensively carry out public fitness activities and promote comprehensive development of both recreational and competitive sports." Li added.

Wang Quan, mayor of Wuxi, affirmed the significance of sports industry and said, "It has been four years from the 11th Sports Meeting, which has witnessed great development in Wuxi sports industry."

"Wuxi government tried to promote the integration of urban and rural sports facilities and make sports smarter in Wuxi. We will continue to do so in future and build Wuxi a national sports tourism demonstration city," Wang added.
