Pingtan, an island in South China, has a pleasant climate with a long tourist season.

In April and May, you are more likely to see blue tears, a fluorescent seaweed phenomenon in Pingtan than during summer vacations.

Blue tears, formally known as ostracods or ostracodes , are a class of the crustacea, sometimes known as seed shrimp. They live on the energy of sea water and can only survive for about 100 seconds if washed ashore by waves. As their energy disappears, their blue light will fade out and the lives of the blue tears will be ended.

The peak tourist season in Pingtan lasts from June to October. This period of time is suitable for people to play and enjoy themselves in the ocean. Yet you still need to be careful about typhoons in summer.

From November to March, the weather in Pingtan is colder than in other months and there will not be many tourists there at that time. If you are a photography enthusiast, it may be a good choice to visit Pingtan in those months to avoid the crowds in the warmer months.
