North China's Shanxi province is developing a modern industrial system with unique Shanxi characteristics, focusing on the long-term transformation of its resource-based economy.
In 2024, significant progress was made in upgrading the province's traditional industries. Key sectors saw accelerated equipment upgrades and technological transformations, resulting in a 3.8 percentage point increase in advanced ironmaking capacity and a 3.7 percentage point increase in advanced steelmaking capacity.
The scale and output of strategic emerging industries also grew substantially, with revenue from high-end equipment manufacturing, electronic information, modern consumer goods, and comprehensive utilization of waste resources reaching 180 billion yuan ($24.89 billion), 200 billion yuan, 140 billion yuan, and 110 billion yuan, respectively.
Efforts have been made to develop artificial intelligence, quantum technology, advanced manufacturing, and green low-carbon technologies, facilitating the seamless integration of innovation and industrial chains. Digital and intelligent technologies are also being employed to drive the transformation and upgrading of the manufacturing sector.
The province encourages and supports enterprises to invest in technological renovations and equipment upgrades, using new technologies and business models to enhance traditional industrial chains. Many enterprises are exploring new fields and unlocking new momentum through digital empowerment and green transformation.
