Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WEDZ) has accelerated the growth of its artificial intelligence sector by holding its first AI and robotics technology transfer event on Feb 28, which attracted nearly 50 investment institutions.
Recent data from WEDZ authorities reveals that the zone's core AI industries exceeded 10 billion yuan ($1.38 billion) in 2024, accounting for 20 percent of the city's total.
As a national hub for intelligent connected vehicle testing and demonstration, WEDZ's focus on this sector has drawn numerous AI technology companies, including iFlytek, DreamSmart, and InferVision.
More than 10 companies in the zone now report annual revenues surpassing 100 million yuan. Three new provincial-level "Little Giant" specialized enterprises have been established, fostering a cycle of technology breakthroughs, scenario implementation, and industrial upgrading.
The zone also emphasizes key areas such as autonomous driving and intelligent manufacturing, having established 28 demonstration scenarios. It has introduced policies offering incentives of up to 500 million yuan to support AI and automotive software projects.
Upcoming efforts will focus on reinforcing AI industry infrastructure, developing public technology service platforms, and consolidating innovative resources to cultivate new quality productive forces.
