The Nanjing City Wall Museum is dedicated to presenting the history and significance of the Nanjing City Wall. It is the largest museum in China focusing on city walls, and its design emphasizes the preservation and presentation of the Nanjing City Wall's majestic structure, seamlessly integrating outdoor views of the wall into the visitor experience. Beyond its role as a museum, it serves as an open urban park.

The Nanjing City Wall, constructed in 1366, is the largest city wall in China and the world's largest city fortification. Completed in 1393 after 28 years of construction, it consists of 350 million bricks – a testament to the remarkable engineering achievements of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644).

The museum's permanent exhibitions include Harmony of Heaven and Earth: Capital of the Ming Dynasty, Labors in Bricks and Stones: Nanjing City Wall as Collective Work, Four-circle Nanjing City Wall: Majestic Imperial Capital, Undergoing Continuous Wars: Vicissitudes of the Nanjing City Wall, and Nanjing City Wall as Cultural Heritage: Memory and Inheritance.

Key exhibits include the Stone Gate of the Palace City, a component of the ancient Ming Palace, alongside inscribed city wall bricks produced in kilns across China and historical texts related to the Nanjing City Wall.
