The Xi Xia Museum is the first museum in China dedicated to the history of the Xixia Dynasty (1038 – 1227). It is located within the Xixia Mausoleum National Archaeological Park and offers a comprehensive and systematic overview of Xixia's history. The museum showcases the cultural significance of the Xixia Mausoleum, archaeological discoveries, and heritage conservation efforts.
The museum spans an exhibition area of 5,400 square meters. It houses a collection of over 10,000 artifacts across 16 categories, including architectural components, stone carvings, ceramics, coins, bronze and iron items, paintings, and sculptures.
The collection's highlights include intricately carved dragon-adorned pillars, stone horses, Xixia silk paintings, clay Buddha heads, luohan heads, and wooden figures of female performers from the Xixia period.
The museum features a permanent exhibition titled "The History and Culture of the Xixia", which is divided into six sections: Xixia history, culture, religious art, socio-economic life, the Xixia Mausoleum, and preservation efforts. It also has two temporary exhibition halls.
They showcase over 3,300 artifacts integrating the latest research findings on Xixia and state-of-the-art display techniques from domestic and international sources.
