Liupan Mountain, located in the south of Ningxia Hui autonomous region, Northwest China, is a vital water conservation forest on the western Loess Plateau. It is also a national nature reserve and a renowned summer retreat. As the last mountain the Red Army crossed during the Long March, it marks a historic turning point where the Chinese revolution moved from one victory to another.
Steeped in history, Liupan Mountain has been referenced in numerous classical Chinese poems. Emperors Qin Shi Huang (259-210 BC), Wudi of the Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD 220), and Genghis Khan traversed its paths, leaving their footprints in history. Chairman Mao Zedong immortalized the mountain in his famous verse: "He who has never been to the Great Wall is not a true hero."
Recognized as one of China's top 100 classic red tourism sites and a National Patriotic Education and National Defense Education Demonstration Base, this area offers immersive experiences. Visitors can explore the Red Army Trail, a 2.5-kilometer path that symbolizes the Long March. Along the route, 18 miniature landscapes recreate key historical events, including the Zunyi Conference and the Luding Bridge battle.
Nicknamed the "Green Island of the Plateau", Liupan Mountain also boasts breathtaking landscapes, a cool climate, and high oxygen levels, making it a favorite summer escape in Northwest China.
