The museum houses over 24,000 artifacts and serves as the cultural and historical hub of Jilin city in Northeast China’s Jilin province.
It features a building area of 26,150 square meters and an exhibition space of 16,000 sq m.
Renovated with a new facility in 2009, the museum's vast collection includes 14 first-class artifacts, 15 second-class artifacts, and 972 third-class artifacts. Highlights include archaeological relics, meteorite specimens, and artifacts from Shaanxi, Shanxi, and Henan provinces. The prized Jilin No 1 meteorite, weighing 1,770 kilograms, is the largest single-piece meteorite in the world.
Over its 60-year history, the museum has hosted more than 500 exhibitions, published more than 500 professional papers, and completed 30 provincial and municipal research projects.
