Wuyishan Airport is the third airport in Fujian province to commence civil aviation operations. Located in the picturesque southeastern region of Wuyishan city, it sits between the urban area and the Wuyishan scenic area.
Originally converted for both military and civilian uses in 1984, Wuyishan Airport underwent significant expansion in 1992 with a combined investment from the State and local authorities. Following the expansion, it was classified as a Civil Aviation 4C-level airport, designed to handle an annual passenger throughput of 420,000. It officially opened for civil aviation on Jan 15, 1994.
The airport is well-equipped with a Category I Instrument Landing System, a Category I approach lighting system, and VOR/DME navigational aids, enabling all-weather operations.
Leveraging the rich tourism resources of Wuyishan, the airport has seen rapid growth in its aviation business. It is recognized as one of East China's most cost-effective, efficient, and fastest-growing airports.
Since its inauguration, Wuyishan Airport has launched 30 domestic and regional routes, connecting Wuyishan with cities such as Fuzhou, Xiamen, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Hangzhou, Shenzhen, Shantou, Beijing, Guangzhou, Nanjing, Wuhan, Xi'an, Jinjiang, Wenzhou, Haikou, Zhuhai, Changzhou, Shenyang, Macau, Changchun, Zhengzhou, Dalian, Ningbo, Jinan, Tianjin, Zhoushan, Kunming, Changsha, Qingdao, and Chongqing.
