Fuzhou, capital of East China's Fujian province, boasts a rich history spanning over 2,200 years. At its ancient core lies the Sanfang Qixiang Historical and Cultural Block, a testament to the city's enduring legacy. Known as the Three Lanes and Seven Alleys, this area is a must-visit scenic spot celebrated for its well-preserved ancient architecture and historical significance.

The origins of Sanfang Qixiang date back to the late Western Jin Dynasty (265-316). Its layout was established during the Tang Dynasty (618-907), and it flourished during the Ming and Qing dynasties (1368-1911). The district is renowned for its unique city layout, featuring three lanes to the west and seven alleys to the east, all branching from central Nanhou Street.

The area is rich in cultural relics, as it is home to approximately 270 well-preserved ancient residences and 159 listed preserved buildings, including nine national protected historical sites and eight provincial protected historical sites.

Characterized by flagstone paths, white walls, black tiles, and exquisite craftsmanship, it is regarded as the "architecture museum of styles of the Ming and Qing dynasties", as well as the "living fossil of the ancient city street system".

Throughout history, it has been the residence of many notable figures, such as the famous scholar Yan Fu, the celebrated female writer Bing Xin, and the national hero Lin Zexu.

In 2013, Sanfang Qixiang was added to the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List, highlighting its global cultural significance. Today, through continuous preservation and reconstruction efforts, the district has successfully integrated culture, business, and tourism, making it a vibrant and dynamic part of Fuzhou.

Key attractions within the Sanfang Qixiang block include Yijin Lane, Wenru Lane, Guanglu Lane, Yangqiao Alley, and Langguan Alley.
