Located in the eastern foothills of Fenghuang Mountain in downtown Tangshan, Tangshan Museum was initially established in 1996 before a major renovation began in 2009. The new look museum reopened to the public in 2012.

Tangshan is a comprehensive museum that integrates collections of art, human history and natural history.

The expanded Tangshan Museum combines the original southern, northern and western buildings of Tangshan Exposition Hall with two newly constructed buildings. Together, the five buildings cover a floor area of over 2,4000 square meters and spread over 4.9 hectares. Among them, the three original buildings, constructed in 1968 in the architectural style of the era, withstood the 1976 Tangshan earthquake and remain in use today as part of the earthquake heritage site.

Each building of the museum serves a specific purpose. Building A features the exhibition "Three Blossoms of Eastern Hebei", focusing on the traditional folk arts of Tangshan shadow puppetry, Pingju opera and Laoting drum performances.

Building B hosts a permanent exhibition of more than 1, 600 cultural relics that trace Tangshan's history from early human settlements 40,000 years ago to its development as a city driven by coal mining in the 20th century.

Building C showcases the museum's collection of artworks, including donations such as sculptures and books by Pan Shaotang, works from contemporary Chinese artists donated by Jia Jinghong, and calligraphy and paintings by Li Yuan, Chen Dayuan, Liu Shiyu and Liu Gansheng. Manuscripts and books documenting Han Xi's contributions to Tangshan's theatrical development are also on display.

There is a lecture hall, a library and office space in Building D. Building E is reserved for temporary exhibitions.
