Jilin animation shines at Cannes debut

Jilin Animation Institute's (JAI) latest animated film, Zap's Last Stand, premiered on Oct 23 at MIPCOM 2024 in Cannes, marking a milestone for Chinese animation on the international stage. The premiere, held in the International Academy Garden, drew widespread attention and symbolized the growth of China's educational animation sector globally.

This animated feature exemplifies Jilin Animation Institute's unique approach to integrating academics, research, and industry – a cornerstone of the institute's philosophy. With strengths in creativity, design, production, and innovation, Zap's Last Stand showcases the institute's capabilities across the animation pipeline. The film's debut reflects the institute's success in advancing curriculum and practice in animation.

MIPCOM, one of the world's largest entertainment content markets, hosts over 1,500 leading production and distribution companies from more than 100 countries. The Jilin institute's delegation, led by Executive President Liu Zhenhua, attended the event alongside international partners, including Alexandre Edward Weight, an Australian screenwriter, and Juan Diego Peral Fernandez, a Spanish composer. Prominent media outlets such as BFM Côte d'Azur and Yes I Cannes covered the event.

During the premiere, Liu highlighted JAI's development, international partnerships, and the distinct appeal of Zap's Last Stand. Enthusiastic audiences praised the film's unique artistry and sci-fi storytelling, sparking high hopes for JAI's future in global animation.
