Northeast China's Jilin province is set for a record-breaking grain harvest this year as authorities prioritize food security as a key political task. The provincial government integrated grain production into its 75 breakthrough initiatives, focusing on stabilizing planting areas and increasing per-unit yields.

In February, Jilin assigned grain, soybean, and oilseed production targets to local governments, emphasizing the importance of agriculture through accountability measures. Support policies, including differentiated subsidies for producers, boosted farmers' enthusiasm for grain cultivation, leading to a historic increase in planting areas.

Efforts to improve per-unit yields centered on enhancing farmland, seed quality, and mechanization. Investment in high-standard farmland rose significantly, covering 10.98 million mu (732,000 hectares) of land. High-yield crop varieties like corn and soybeans also saw expanded use. Mechanization efforts improved the province's overall machinery usage for key crops by 0.5 percent.

High-yield farming techniques, such as integrated water-fertilizer management and dense planting, were expanded by over 1 million mu in drought-prone areas. The "one-spray, multi-promotion" technique was applied to 26.59 million mu, a significant increase from last year.

With autumn harvests well underway, Jilin is on track for another record-breaking year in grain production, securing a prosperous future for the province's agricultural sector.
