Hohhot, capital of North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, has seen remarkable growth in its tourism sector, driven by a successful fusion of culture and tourism.

During the 2023 May Day holiday, the city welcomed 2.65 million domestic tourists and generated revenue of 2.01 billion yuan ($283 million), a significant increase from 1.87 million tourists and 1.21 billion yuan in 2022.

The key to this success is the city's focus on enhancing cultural experiences. Hohhot's six major cultural institutions, including the Hohhot Museum and Zhaojun Museum, have seen a steady rise in visitors. In 2023, the museums welcomed over 1.7 million visitors, a sharp increase from 650,000 in 2019.

The city's commitment to cultural tourism has led to events like the 10th Chinese Exposition of Museum and Relevant Products and Technologies and other major exhibitions. The popularity of these events has fueled the rise of museum tourism, further enriched by Hohhot's booming concert scene, which drew nearly 300,000 visitors in just four months.

With initiatives like establishing camping sites and ski resorts, Hohhot is evolving into a top travel destination, blending its cultural heritage with modern tourism experiences.
