A delegation from Northeast China's Jilin province visited Germany on May 27-29 to strengthen mutual cooperation and enhance international engagement and met with considerable success.

The visit aimed to foster deeper ties between Jilin and Germany – particularly in the automotive and technological sectors – to boost its high-quality development and the sustainable revitalization of Jilin.

Celebrating the 10th anniversary of the China-German comprehensive strategic partnership, Jilin has long-standing collaborations with German corporate giants like Volkswagen and Continental AG. These partnerships are widely said to have led to substantial investments and collaborative projects in Jilin.

On May 27, the Jilin delegation met with Volkswagen Group in Wolfsburg – the city, in the state of Lower Saxony, which is home to the global HQ of the German car producer – culminating in the signing of a memorandum of understanding, or MOU.

VW is the largest and most profitable foreign investor in Jilin, with significant ongoing projects like the Audi FAW New Energy Vehicle initiative.

Volkswagen said it plans to leverage the opportunities from Jilin's policies and China's burgeoning electric vehicle market. This will enhance cooperation with Jilin and China FAW, accelerating the development of high-end models and attracting top-tier innovation personnel.

On May 28, the delegation held discussions in Frankfurt with Philipp von Hirschheydt, executive board member of Continental AG. They witnessed the signing of a cooperation agreement between Changchun's Jingyue district and Continental Automotive Safety Systems (Changchun) Co.

The visit wound up on May 29 with the Jilin-Germany Economic and Trade Cooperation Exchange in Frankfurt, where seven key projects were signed.

The delegation also met with the Chinese Consulate-General in Frankfurt and Huawei's European President, Lu Yong, to discuss further cooperation.
