The inaugural Northeast China Book Fair wrapped up on May 19 at the Changchun International Convention and Exhibition Center – located in Changchun, capital of Northeast China's Jilin province – after a three-day event.

Over 600 publishing units showcased more than 400,000 publications, highlighting the cultural richness of Northeast China and offering readers a literary feast.

By 10 am on the closing day, the fair had attracted an estimated 3.9 million visits, both online and offline. Total sales hit 215 million yuan ($29.73 million), with library procurement transactions amounting to 175 million yuan.

The Jilin Province Cultural Industry Investment Promotion Conference secured 45 project agreements, totaling 6.49 billion yuan in investments, with 5.79 billion yuan coming from outside the province.

The fair featured top authors like Liang Xiaosheng, Chen Yan and Li Er, who engaged with readers on literary developments.

The Changchun Film Studio Orchestra and popular actors also performed. Over 130 events – including the Jilin Encyclopedia Compilation Project launch and various forums – attracted over 20,000 participants.

Provincial and municipal governments distributed 5 million yuan in book vouchers and coupons.

The 2024 Most Beautiful Bookstores in Jilin Province awards were announced, with 13 bookstores making the list.

The closing ceremony featured a My Story with Books speech contest and an awards ceremony for outstanding volunteers. Winners took home six first prizes, nine second prizes and 11 third prizes across different age groups, with several organizations and individuals honored for their volunteer services.
