North China's Shanxi province recently stated that by 2025, it will seek to boost the development of digital economy, with the added value of core industries in the digital economy to account for 5.4 percent of its GDP.

As the construction of 5G base stations is fundamental to the development of the province's digital economy, Shanxi's information and communication industry has been promoting the optimization and upgrading of digital infrastructure in recent years. The province has achieved its 5G construction goals laid out in the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) two years in advance and achieved continuous 5G network coverage in places at the township level and above.

On April 16, a total of 11 departments including the Shanxi Communications Administration, jointly proposed that by the end of 2025, over 5,000 key scenarios in the province should achieve comprehensive mobile network coverage, with 1,200 kilometers of railways, 14,000 km of roads and highways, and two subway lines achieving uninterrupted mobile network coverage.

In addition, since the implementation of the characteristic professional town development strategy, Shanxi has organized expert teams to conduct research on each town and fully promoted the towns' digital transformation. Leading enterprises in the towns have taken the lead in building a number of intelligent factories and digital projects.

Meanwhile, enterprises in the province are thoroughly exploring data resources and accelerating the realization of data value, as more data enterprises are participating in data product transactions and exploring new paths for the marketization of data elements.
